But mummies are much more than creatures from a monster movie or even ancient Egyptians. And sometimes they might actually be somebody's mother.
Instead of scaring us, mummies can be really great teachers. Not the kind of teacher who stands in front of your classroom and teaches you math and reading, though. Mummies can be very good at telling us all about what life was like a long time ago- even though they can't talk. They can show us how tall people were, what people used to eat, how they may have dressed, the kinds of jobs they did, and what kind of religion they may have practiced. That's a lot to learn from somebody who can't speak and possibly couldn't write.
 Most of us have an idea about what a mummy is - usually based on what we have seen on television or maybe at the museum. But the whole truth about mummies is a lot more interesting than you may think.
